These hazards present in a variety of forms and the occupational hygienist is specially trained to deal with a broad range of these:

  • Chemical – dusts, aerosols, fibres, fume, gas, mist, smoke, vapour
  • Physical – light, noise, vibration, radiation
  • Biological – bacteria, fungi, protozoan, virus, mould
  • Ergonomic – manual handling, occupational stress
